On Friday, Oct. 9, Kajabi held a creator economy mixer event. It was during this event that the platform announced its ‘The Reality of the Creator Economy’ campaign, a survey of 500 US-based creator businesses, and a report that highlights some of the biggest problems in the creator economy.

What did the Kajabi report say?

One facet of the report highlighted was revenue sharing. According to Kajabi, social media platforms make nine times the amount of money creators make.

The platform also claims that for every $100 TikTok earns, creators make just $6.25, and that 51% of creators have to work for a year or more before seeing any money.

Another facet the report covered is views. Kajabi claims that a single TikTok view is worth just $0.00004 and that the biggest barrier for creators is algorithms and their preferential treatment of established creators.

Finally, the report shows that many creators have concerns about “control.” Half of the creators surveyed want more control over how their content is monetized, while one in three creators claim that they have to compromise their content or values because of specific platforms and policies.

A similar issue arises when creators work with brands, with 46% of these creators finding it difficult to maintain creative control over their content.

Kajabi announces new creator tools

Kajabi also announced three new creator tools — including a newsletter tool, a feature for creators to sell downloadable content to fans, and an invoicing feature via Kajabi Payments.

“We believe the people who create the value should reap the rewards,” Ahad Khan, the CEO of Kajabi, said in a statement.

“The reality is social platforms were never meant to be places where people build sustainable businesses. Creators, who are increasingly seeing themselves as business owners, need specific tools to build and monetize their content to give them true ownership over their livelihoods, enabling them to build a life around what they know and love.”
