From day one, Kamala Harris has made social media a pivotal part of her campaign. She hit the ground running with a meme-heavy Charli XCX-themed social media presence, and over 200 influencers attended the Democratic National Convention to document her nomination.
As polling day draws nearer and nearer, she’s showing no signs of slowing down. This is evidenced by her recent interviews with two of the most prominent podcasts in the biz: “Call Her Daddy” and “The Shade Room.”
Given that research by Pew suggests that young adults trust social media just as much as mainstream media, it makes sense that Harris would be trying to appeal to the chronically online.
Which podcasts did Kamala Harris appear on?
On creator Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Oct. 6, Harris talked about issues like reproductive rights and Republicans’ “childless cat lady” comments, which suit the podcast’s listener base of millennial and Gen Z women.
Meanwhile, on “The Shade Room” podcast on Oct. 14, Harris specifically discussed her Opportunity Agenda for Black Men, which includes mentorship and guidance for men looking for employment.
Harris isn’t the only candidate to court creators — we’ve already seen Trump being interviewed by the likes of Adin Ross and Logan Paul.
But when it comes to reaching different online communities, Harris definitely seems to be coming out on top. At the very least, Harris’s strategy seems more effective than pretending to serve McDonald’s fries.
