Facebook and Instagram are already full of AI-generated slop, but according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, it’s only the beginning.
On Oct. 30, the Meta CEO envisioned what the future of the platforms might look like in an age of AI during Meta’s third-quarter earnings conference call.
As quoted by Fortune, he talked of adding “a whole new category” of content that is AI-generated or AI-summarized, or “existing content pulled together by AI in some way.”
Meta’s new approach to AI
In the call (via Fortune), Zuckerberg also highlighted Meta’s Llama AI model, which is powering tools like Meta’s AI chatbot. This chatbot, Zuckerberg revealed, already has 500 million monthly users, and it will continue to expand further into the business side of things, like advertising.
Essentially, a flood of AI content on Facebook and Instagram feeds feels inevitable. Zuckerberg reports that Meta is already working on these feeds in anticipation.
“I don’t know if we know what’s exactly going to work really well yet, but some things are really promising,” Zuckerberg said. “I have high confidence that over the next several years, this will be one of the important trends and one of the important applications.”
Recently, Passionfruit reported how Meta is working on an AI-powered search engine. As the tool aims to rival Google and Bing, it’s clear that Zuckerberg is not kidding when he says experimentation is occurring.
