AI has already shaken up the creator economy in a huge way, and now, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, wants to take things one step further.
As reported by Tubefilter, the company has launched an initiative called The V Project. This project, in short, has the goal of developing AI-generated versions of creators.
According to Tubefilter, creators who use their likenesses to create AI chatbots via Project V will be able to use them to outsource fan interaction. As AIBase reports, this can involve 24/7 interaction on group chats, comment threads, and live streams.
The software underlying Project V is Doubao, a ByteDance-owned large language model. It seems likely that if this feature goes well in Douyin, we’ll eventually see it on TikTok too.
Are AI avatars already on TikTok?
This comes months after the launch of Symphony Digital Avatars on TikTok. Designed specifically for advertisers, these avatars are based on the likeness of paid actors, who can personally endorse anything you want (within reason) via AI.
Moreover, ByteDance isn’t the only company that is experimenting with AI creators. Back in July, Meta launched its AI Studio, which allowed Instagram creators to make AI chatbot versions of themselves to interact with fans on a more regular basis.
And then there’s the individual creators who have made AI avatars of themselves. Amouranth, for instance, recently launched her own “AI girlfriend,” with the project amassing $34,000 of revenue in the first 24 hours alone.
Demonstrably, there’s a lot of potential with Project V — so don’t be surprised if you catch AI versions of your favorites on your For You Page.
