Meta’s latest move in the AI arms race is an Instagram feature that generates post captions and comments. Social media reporter Jonah Manzano shared the update with a couple of screenshots showing how the feature works on Threads.

The first screenshot shows a pop-up box by Instagram that tells users that they can now get “suggested captions based on the photo you’re showing.” The box also gives a little insight into how the feature works, noting that “Meta AI can analyze photos, including facial features, to help you write.”
In a TikTok video, Manzano provided a more comprehensive explanation of the comment feature. As a caveat, he began the video by opining that using AI in comments is “not a great thing to do” because “you want everything to be real.”
He then showed viewers that to access AI comments, all you need to do is click the sparkling pencil icon next to the comment box. Once you do this, a window pops up showing suggested comments.
This is the latest in a long line of Meta AI updates, with its platforms previously introducing an AI tag to label AI-generated user content.
As a creator, this automated post and comment system could save you a lot of time, especially if, for example, you were replying to comments from fans. But by taking the “create” out of “creator,” is it really worth it?
