Instagram is officially in its MySpace era, with users now having the ability to add a favorite song to their profile, according to a press release from the platform.
However, there is one key difference between this new feature and the old one on Myspace. Namely, users viewing a profile will have the choice of pausing and playing the song rather than having it endlessly autoplay à la Myspace.
To add a song to your Instagram profile, creators can head to the “edit profile” page. From there, you’ll be able to look for and select a 30-second snippet of a song from Instagram’s licensed music library in the same way that you’d select songs for posts or Reels.
It’s all thanks to Sabrina Carpenter
Instagram is launching this favorite song feature in collaboration with the Sabrina Carpenter, a pop star who has become a sensation thanks to viral hits like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
As part of this collaboration, Carpenter will be joining other Instagram users in sharing a musical snippet on her profile. The difference is, however, that she will be sharing a teaser for her new song “Taste.”
This teaser will be exclusive to Instagram, so fans will need to head to her profile if they truly want a taste of “Taste” (sorry).
Furthermore, there are a few Sabrina-related Easter eggs to promote the artists’ new album, “Short n’ Sweet. For example, if you try to post Notes including words like “Sabrina” and “Espresso,” the notes will turn a light blue.
There’s also a blue, Sabrina Carpenter chat theme, if that’s more your thing. It’s unclear if customized campaigns like this will become available to more creators soon.
