Three years on, it looks like IShowSpeed is single-handedly bringing the “TV meta” back to Twitch.
The “TV meta” is one of many “meta” (winning strategies) that Twitch streamers implement to maximize their follower and viewer accounts. TV meta was wildly popular with viewers in early 2022 until legal action stopped the party.
Notable streamers who have used the “TV meta” in the past include Pokimane, Hasan Piker, and Disguised Toast. However, all of these creators received either copyright claims or bans, according to VICE. Consequently, creators have generally avoided streaming TV series on Twitch ever since.
However, this could all be about to change.
Is Ishowspeed Streaming One Piece?
In a stream on Jan. 5, IShowSpeed claimed that he spoke to “the producer” of the One Piece anime. He claims that they told him that he was permitted to rebroadcast episodes of the One Piece anime on his Twitch channel.
Of course, this is IShowSpeed we’re talking about — he’s known for making grandiose, sweeping statements about everything from knocking out Jake Paul to outrunning professional athletes.
But he has been open about his connection to One Piece in the past, claiming that the show helped him with his depression. So, it’s not exactly far-fetched that he could stream it. Either way, if he wants to stream One Piece from the start, he has a heck of a challenge ahead of him. The series has 1122 episodes.
Ultimately, if what IShowSpeed is saying is true, it could set a precedent for a new era of “TV meta.” Maybe we’re seeing the beginning of an era where networks and creators work with each other rather than against each other.
