Sora is already amassing controversy less than a week after its launch. Along with other tech reviewers, Marques ‘MKBHD’ Brownlee got early access to the software. As he fed dozens of prompts to the AI model, there was one video that spooked him.

One of his prompts was to generate a video of a tech reviewer talking about a smartphone. While the video itself was of high quality, Brownlee couldn’t help but notice a plant on the desk that looked suspiciously like his own.

“That is a convenient reminder of the other side of tools like this.” Brownlee said. “The unknown behind a lot of the tools.”

“Are my videos in that source material?” Brownlee asked, “Is this exact plant part of the source material? Is it just a coincidence? I don’t know.”

Ultimately, Brownlee’s review of the product was mixed. While he said it held great potential, he noted that there are still a few things to be concerned about.

“It’s still an extremely powerful tool that directly moves us further into the era of not being able to believe anything you see online,” he said. “The craziest part of all of this is the fact that this tool, Sora, is going to be available to the public, to millions of people, all at once.”
