If you’ve ever wanted to talk to AI versions of your besties, fear not — you can now do this on Instagram.
On July 29, Meta announced it is rolling out its new AI Studio: a tool that allows creators to make AI versions of themselves or completely fictional AI characters. Not creepy at all.
Meta’s new AI studio
In a blog post, Meta says that Instagram creators in the US can now set up an AI “extension of themselves that can quickly answer common DM questions and story replies.”
This AI bot can be customized with personality traits and which topics to talk about (or avoid).
“You can use a wide variety of prompt templates or start from scratch to make an AI that teaches you how to cook, helps you with your Instagram captions, generates memes to make your friends laugh,” Meta added in a blog post about the AI studio. “The possibilities are endless.”
Don’t worry — this bot doesn’t risk becoming sentient and taking over your identity. When users interact with an AI bot, a “Made With AI” label will appear.
Meta isn’t the only platform pursuing an AI studio like this. Insiders told The Information that Google has spoken with creators about the possibility of developing chatbots based on their likenesses. TikTok also rolled out its own Symphony Digital Avatars in June.
