A TikTok creator has amassed controversy for purportedly making light of domestic abuse. The drama was sparked by a TikTok entitled: “GRWM to go on the scariest date of my life.” At first glance, the now-deleted TikTok seemed like a regular GRWM video.

Repost of Molly’s deleted GRWM video since the sound wasnt on the first time I posted it. At the end of this one she teases a black eye and busted lip in front of police lights and how it was the “scariest date of her life”. Turns out to be clickbait for her next video which is an ad for a haunted house. #mollyrutter #mollyerutter #blackeye #mollyrutterblackeye #mollyrutterDV @Molly Rutter

But things took a turn toward the end of the video as she filmed herself appearing tearful with a black eye, telling the camera that this was “the scariest date of [her] life.”

This led to viewers assuming something terrible had happened, and it wasn’t until the next day that Rutter issued an update.

The lighthearted follow-up revealed that the date in question was a private tour of a haunted house, and that Rutter wasn’t, in fact, in danger.

While she has now taken down both videos, viewers are continuing to express their fury at the situation in the comments of re-uploads. “She implied some sort of DV,” one wrote. “And she knows it.” Another described the situation as “horrific and disgusting.” While a third commenter added: “People will do anything for views and I mean ANYTHING.”

In response to this backlash, Rutter posted an apology video. She confirmed the black eye was makeup and said that implying any danger was “absolutely not [her] intention.” But with comments on the video turned off, it looks like all hasn’t been forgiven yet.
