Several platforms have taken a leaf out of TikTok’s book: from obvious competitors like Instagram to the more surprising ones like LinkedIn. Now Netflix is getting in on the trend by introducing a vertical homepage in its mobile app. Additionally, according to Netflix’s blog, users can expect an updated homescreen experience on their TVs.
The Netflix TV experience has been completely redesigned, taking away the large grid of options you’ve come to know. Now you’ll see larger tiles featuring a synopsis and details about each program. Netflix has also shifted ‘Search’ and ‘My List’ shortcuts from the left-hand side to the top of the page. Additionally, this revamped platform promises more “real-time recommendations” for viewers by considering their current “moods and interests.”
Netflix also announced it is bringing Generative AI to its discovery features. Currently, the platform is operating an opt-in beta that allows members to look for shows through more casual phrases like, “I want something funny.”
However, the biggest news to come out from all this is the fact that Netflix will be testing a vertical feed in mobile, which brings bite-sized clips of TV shows and movies on the platform. If you want to watch a show based on a clip, tap on the screen to start playing.
“What’s most exciting to me is how our new TV experience gives us the ability to evolve and innovate more easily going forward,” Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone said. “That’s how we’re going to make the Netflix people know even better. And it’s how we’ll continue to connect them with even more shows, movies, and games they’ll love.”
