Lessons From the Anti-Work Girlboss

CREATOR NEWSLETTER

THE COMMENTS SECTION

Creators, of course, tend to have less flexibility to coast than those of us with W2s and health insurance. Or, at least, they have to plan well and build up some savings in order to give themselves a little room to coast from time to time.

Being a creator is inherently more risky and less stable than other career choices. But hey, higher risk = higher reward. If you’re freelancing or working for yourself, you have to think on your toes more, which means more learning. And, if you own your work, that means you have the potential to earn more down the line. Or, at least, have the freedom to pursue the things you’re passionate about.

All of this to say, many of you creators might not have Labor Day off. But nevertheless, it’s a good litmus test day for all who labor to reevaluate what we really want.

Do you want to learn, earn, coast? Do you want to do something more meaningful? Perhaps make the world a better place? Do you want a vacation? A retirement plan? More mentorship? More community? Do you want a temporary 9-to-5 lazy girl job to coast in? Or instead, do you want to stage a Gone-Girl-esque hostile coup of your 9-to-5?

Really, the world is your oyster.
