CREATOR ECONOMY NEWSLETTER
Issue 39 | May 12, 2022
The creator economy is often viewed as a young person’s industry. However, while Gen Z is a dominant force on social media, plenty of older creators are challenging the notion of who gets to be successful online. From content houses for retirees to a mega-popular cooking grandma, older creators capture the hearts of audiences of all ages—and make money in the process.
Beyond being a source of entertainment, older influencers give a glimpse of life beyond youth. Women are particularly impacted by ageism, which can ingrain a fear of getting older. However, older women online are challenging that fear and inspiring younger followers to embrace aging. Passionfruit contributor Ingrid Cruz spoke with three female influencers in their 40s and 50s about visibility, finding a welcoming community on social media, and why you’re never “too old” to start creating.
