Gambling on Twitch has been a hot topic of debate recently following a series of controversies, one involving a âscammingâ streamer and another including bankrupt fans. Following the revelation that streamer Sliker allegedly conned fans out of $200,000 to feed a gambling addiction, top creators such as Pokimane, Mizkif, and Devin Nash called on Twitch to act against gambling streams, which they asserted are damaging to young viewers. The streamers threatened to boycott the platform during the holiday season if Twitch failed to act. Itâs unclear if this pressure was the catalyst for Twitchâs next move, but the company soon announced it would ban streams of unlicensed gambling sites like crypto casinos Stake, Rollbit, and Roobet. Passionfruit contributor Steven Asarch spoke with gambling experts and Twitch creators about the ban, which some believe isnât enough to combat the issue.
