Roblox has built a wildly successful creator monetization process, and with this new tool, the platform is taking things one step further.
In a blog post, Vice President of Economy Enrico D’Angelo announced that creators can now implement “regional pricing” for customers in different countries. This has been implemented because of the erratic state of currencies around the world.
Because currency is fluctuating, some Roblox players have to pay more for items than they would in a country like America. So, by adjusting pricing for these users, they get a fair deal and don’t end up losing out because of where they are located.
How Does Regional Pricing Work?
In the blog post, D’Angelo gives a little more detail about how regional pricing will work.
“With Regional Pricing enabled, prices are automatically optimized for each user’s local economy and updated periodically as Roblox’s virtual economy—and the global economy in the physical world—shifts,” he writes.
“Creators set the base price of their in-game items and retain complete control over which are priced regionally. From there, Roblox automatically applies the optimal region-specific prices for those in-game items as economic factors fluctuate.”
D’Angelo also shared that the early results of regional pricing look promising. Roblox found that creators who used regional pricing got more purchases from a higher number of players. Specifically, sales were up by 52% in the Philippines, 26% in Brazil, and 17% in Mexico.
Clearly, regional pricing is a great way to appeal to a larger market. It will be interesting to see if other platforms follow suit.
