Entertainment company Rooster Teeth was ahead of its time. Started in 2003, it became an online sensation thanks to series like Red vs. Blue, which became the longest-running web series in history.
As the internet evolved and developed, so did Rooster Teeth. But time seemed to run out for the brand last year. In March 2024, it was announced that Rooster Teeth had shut down, which led to 150 staff and freelancers losing their jobs.
It felt like the end of an era in terms of the online landscape until Feb. 5, 2025. This week, Rooster Teeth founder Burnie Burns announced that he and his production company, Box Canyon Productions, have acquired the brand, paving the way for a Rooster Teeth revival.
“I am excited at the challenge of bringing Rooster Teeth back to its roots,” Burns said in a press release. “The heart of this brand has always been its fans, and I look forward to writing a new chapter together.”
What’s Next for the Rooster Teeth Revival?
Burns went into detail about the acquisition in the latest episode of his podcast, Morning Somewhere. “Our focus in this acquisition was the Rooster Teeth channels, meaning the website, the YouTube channel, all the social media accounts, and then all the shows therein,” he said.
Burns then went on to add that in addition to “new stuff” certain beloved shows will be revived, although he didn’t clarify which ones. He also said that he hopes things will be up and running by the summer.
More information is set to be revealed in a Q&A this weekend for Patreon subscribers of Morning Somewhere. This information in turn will be published on Feb. 10.
Currently, the only other Rooster Teeth employee is Ashley Burns. In an era of brainrot and AI, the return of Rooster Teeth and its high-quality content is very much welcomed. And who knows, we might even get Red vs. Blue back.
