When Kai Cenat first floated the idea of a Streamer University in February, few believed he would actually follow through. Yet, somehow, he did. Despite Streamer University’s bumpy ride, the event, which took place between May 22 and May 25, was definitely a success in terms of viewership.
The event involved selecting 150 up-and-coming creators to not only take classes, but also stay in dorms to get the full university experience. Classes were divided into four categories: Content Creation 101, Audience Growth, Monetization, and Tech & Tools. They were led by more seasoned creators, including Duke Dennis, Agent 00, DDG, and ChrisnNxtDoor.
Tubefilter reports that Streamer University peaked at 719,000 concurrent viewers and more than 27 million hours of watch time. Moreover, according to Twitch Tracker, Streamer University-related content was streamed across nearly 1,000 different Twitch accounts between May 21 and May 27. Its average concurrent viewership was ~160,000. The first day amassed 719,000 concurrent views while the last day amassed 716,000 views.
However, despite this viewership, things weren’t all rosy on campus. Cenat received backlash for a litany of reasons, including accusations of favoritism and bullying. This led to him vowing not to do an event like this again. “No matter which way I try to make sure things is good, I always get the bad end of the stick,” he said.
However, given the success of the project, we would not be surprised to see another semester happen.
