We’ve talked a lot about how TikTok has benefitted the US economy, but what about the other way around? According to The Information, TikTok’s US operations are thriving more than ever — and raking in cash for ByteDance.

An inside source told the outlet that ByteDance’s international revenue, the majority of which comes from TikTok US, jumped by 63% to $39 billion in 2024. This $39 billion ended up accounting for a quarter of ByteDance’s total revenue ($155 billion) for that year.

This is proof that keeping TikTok US alive is definitely worth it in the long run. Earlier this month, a deal between ByteDance and the US Government to keep TikTok running was within touching distance. However, it fell apart after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on China, leading to the country pulling out of the deal.

However, given TikTok US’s financial impact on ByteDance, it will be interesting to see if China changes its mind.

This follows previous data about TikTok’s sizeable contribution to the US economy. The Oxford Economics Report, ‘Measuring the Number of Jobs that benefit from US Businesses using TikTok,’ found that, in 2024, 4.7 million US jobs “benefitted from a TikTok business account.”

The report also found that more than 3.1 million jobs directly use TikTok in their work and that 1.6 million workers indirectly benefit from using TikTok. Moreover, the report adds that 7.5 million US businesses have an active TikTok account.
