Content creation on TikTok can be lucrative, but according to the app, livestreaming is on another level. On April 24, at its New York HQ, TikTok invited creators and advertisers to an in-person mixer. Amid the schmoozing and networking, Digiday says that the platform announced that its creators are generating $10 million from livestreams.
According to Digiday, TikTok is hosting countless in-person mixers in order to convince creators to try out livestreaming. As the outlet points out, TikTok has been pulling out all the stops to make livestreaming more appealing to creators. In early April, the platform gave creators access to virtual training and webinars via Zoom. More specifically, on April 9, the app also made a dedicated Discord server for TikTok Live creators.
Reportedly, Yannick Luna, TikTok Live’s US social agency lead, and Merzia Cutlerywala, a creator network growth manager at TikTok Live, were both speakers at the event.
During the talk, they announced that, in the last 30 days, TikTok Live creators have $63 million in revenue. Moreover, 80.4% of that revenue came from creators with less than 50,000 followers. Per Digiday, high-performing creator networks can make $3 million per month. The speakers also claimed that over 400,000 creators go live every day, while 30 million TikTok users watch livestreams daily.
In a statement to Digiday, TikTok head of Live operations Shen Gao said: “We aim to democratize Live content creation, making it available to everyone and at the same time build a strong and sustainable creator economy. Creators should be rewarded for the time and effort it takes to go live, engage with their fans, community and new viewers.”
