A year after its launch, TikTok is shutting down its music streaming platform, TikTok Music. When you visit the site, it’s been replaced with a notice that reads: “We are sorry to inform you that TikTok Music will be closing on 28 November 2024.”
According to TechCrunch, subscribers can continue using the service until November 28. From that date onwards, renewals for the service will be automatically canceled. Refund requests will also need to be submitted by that date.
The outlet also reports that the deadline to transfer your playlists to other streamers is October 28.
RIP TikTok Music, formerly known as Resso
Prior to its 2023 rebrand, TikTok Music was known as Resso. The music streaming app, which was owned by ByteDance, first launched in 2019 in India and Indonesia. It later expanded to Brazil, and then Australia, Singapore, and Mexico. According to TechCrunch, the app was shut down in India earlier this year.
“Our Add to Music App feature has already enabled hundreds of millions of track saves to playlists on partner music streaming services,” Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok, said in a statement to TechCrunch.
“We will be closing TikTok Music at the end of November in order to focus on our goal of furthering TikTok’s role in driving even greater music listening and value on music streaming services, for the benefit of artists, songwriters, and the industry.”
