President Donald Trump has already made a few eyebrow-raising appointments. His latest? Dan Bongino as Deputy FBI Director, which he shared on Truth Social.
In his post, Trump describes Bongino as “a man of incredible love and passion for our Country.” He also praises him for giving up his career as a content creator to “serve” the country.
“Working with our great new United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and Director Patel, Fairness, Justice, Law and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly,” Trump added.
Who is Dan Bongino?
As the BBC reports, Dan Bongino has a law enforcement background, having worked for the NYPD and Secret Service. He previously hosted “Unfiltered With Dan Bongino” on Fox News. However, these days, the staunch Trump supporter is best known for his divisive podcast, the “Dan Bongino Show.”
The podcast, which streams on Rumble, has 3.51 million followers on the platform. It’s also the 33rd most popular podcast on Spotify. That’s despite Bongino being temporarily suspended on X and permabanned on YouTube because of his controversial views. According to the BBC, clips from Bongino’s podcast on Facebook rake in more users than Fox News and CNN combined.
This appointment just goes to show how much Trump is relying on creators to stay on top: having also leaned on them heavily during his re-election campaign. With the White House press secretary also issuing a dedicated “seat” for creators in the press room, this reliance clearly isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
Still, after unsuccessfully running for Congress three times, it looks like Bongino is finally living out his political dream. But given his lack of experience it’s hard to say how long it could last.
