Back in September 2024, YouTube announced a new feature called ‘Communities. Communities is a dedicated social feed linked to certain creators’ channels.
Within this feed, creators can post polls, GIFs, images, and general updates for fans. Fans are also able to converse with each other and start conversations as members of this feed.
In the months since, Communities has become an enriching tool for a select number of creators. So, it should come as no surprise that YouTube has already announced a slew of updates for the feature.
What Updates Are Coming to YouTube Communities?
One new addition is a dedicated conversation space away from the main feed. In these spaces, creators will be able to start conversations and join in on existing ones.
Another significant change to Communities is the implementation of two-way interactions. This means that both creators and fans will have the opportunity to create and share posts on the feed. As YouTube points out, this encourages back-to-back conversations and the ability for fans to bond with each other.
YouTube is also adding enhanced moderation tools for channel owners to ensure that community members are behaving appropriately. They’ll also help creators control who can participate in their community.
Its also worth noting that the Community tab is being renamed the ‘Posts’ tab. For all intents and purposes, this shouldn’t make a difference in how users interact with and use the feed, but at least this name will keep things a little more straightforward.
Finally, the most significant update is in how creators will be able to access their Communities tab. Creators invited to enable the feature will receive an email. These creators can then go back to their channel page and tap the “Go to Community” button to learn more about the Communities feature, as well as having the option of turning on the feature.
The announcement, which was on the YouTube Help page, also included a testimonial from creator @froggycrossing. “Since I started using Communities, I’ve seen heartwarming connections between my viewers that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise,” she said. “It’s such an awesome space for my audience to connect with each other and me in a more personal way — all right on YouTube!”
“My Community makes it easy to keep my audience engaged, and I love that it’s a safe and wholesome place for them to hang out and get to know me and each other. Communities have definitely helped strengthen my channel and my personal brand and I’m so excited to have a dedicated space on YouTube to build deeper connections with my audience.”
