You might think demonetizing YouTube channels is a conscious choice made by a real person behind the screen. However, given the scale of YouTube, that’s not always possible. Currently, YouTube utilizes an automated reviewing system. However, according to Tubefilter, human intervention is coming when it comes to demonetization.

How Is YouTube Changing These Monetization Reviews?

YouTube’s often swift and brutal automated demonization policy has been a source of frustration for creators. Many argue that their videos have been demonetized arbitrarily and unfairly.

These complaints have gotten the attention of YouTube. The company have announced that it’s committed to improving the “accuracy” of these demonetization decisions.

To achieve this, YouTube has announced it is “experimenting” with automatically sending videos marked as “Limited or no ads” for an additional, human-led review. According to YouTube, this will also help videos get remonetized faster, although it might still take up to 24 hours.

“We’re rolling this out to a small percentage of creators at first, but we’ll keep you posted on our plans to expand it to all creators that monetize with ads,” the blog post adds.

YouTube videos flagged as “Limited or no ads” have a yellow icon beside them. As the name implies, these flagged videos get limited monetization opportunities. This is because they only meet some of YouTube’s ad-friendly content guidelines.

As Tubefilter points out, this move could save creators a lot of time. Previously, they would have to file a dispute with YouTube — a process that can take days. If this experiment rolls out more widely, it could make fighting demonetization strikes much more efficient.

As more and more companies rely on AI and automation, it’s refreshing to see YouTube taking a more human-first approach, especially in the interest of helping creators.
