YouTube Shorts might look a little different from now on. The short-form video platform, which YouTube launched in 2021, is increasing its maximum video length to three minutes.
On the cosmetic side of things, YouTube Shorts is being treated to a sleek new design alongside a suite of tools designed to help creators.
“Starting on October 15, you can upload Shorts up to 3 minutes long,” YouTube said in a blog post.“This was a top requested feature by creators, so we’re excited to give you more flexibility to tell your story. This change applies to videos that are square or taller in aspect ratio, and won’t affect any videos you uploaded before October 15.”
What other YouTube Shorts changes are coming?
YouTube detailed exactly how this redesign looks in images shared on its blog post. The icons on the Shorts player are now transparent, while the video description has been moved to the bottom of the screen, similar to TikTok and Reels.
According to the blog post, other features have been released to help creators stay on top of trends. Examples include viral videos becoming available as templates and a Shorts Trends page helping to ensure that creators will stay up to date on everything that’s happening.
“Whether you’re looking to discover something new or dive into creating, these tools will empower you to express yourself, get inspired, engage more deeply and keep up with the latest trends,” YouTube added.
