X’s Creator Revenue Sharing Program, which is exclusive to X Premium users, is undergoing a drastic change. Namely, creators on X will now be getting paid in the monetization program based on “engagement” from fellow X Premium users.
“Ads in replies will no longer impact your payout,” a thread on X explains. “Instead, you’ll be paid based on engagement with your content from Premium users.”
How does the X premium monetization program work?
Now, under the new program, if you are an X creator, the money you earn will depend on how much X Premium users reply, repost, and like your content.
As Mashable points out, before this change, creators were paid in the monetization program based on how many X premium members viewed ads next to their content.
Some creators have raised concerns about this new system. For instance, BBC journalist Shayan Sardarizadeh asked: “What measures are you taking to make sure this change doesn’t make the issue of engagement farming on X much worse?”
In addition, in a longer post, X says that “only genuine interactions from Premium users will be counted toward your earning.” In a supporting document about the monetization program, X revealed that these changes will be implemented on Oct. 8.
The platform claims that “up to” 25% of Premium subscriptions will go “directly to creators.”
