It’s no secret that Hollywood is courting creators. With everyone glued to our phones, helping TikTokers transition from the small screen to the big screen feels almost inevitable.
Creator Camp is here to speed up that process. The film studio bridges the gap for creators by providing them with the resources to help them find Hollywood success.
Back in April, Creator Camp burst onto the scene by hosting a 1,000-person film festival at Austin’s Paramount Theater. This was made possible thanks to a high-profile collaboration with Patreon, which funded 10 creators’ short films while also attracting the likes of Quentin Tarantino for workshops.
Inspired by the success of the film festival, the camp team has now rented a large studio space, with equally large ambitions.
In an announcement cited by Tubefilter, Cristina Colina, the Chief Creative Officer of Creator Camp said: “Everyone knows Hollywood is broken. But nobody’s doing anything about it. While the internet now fully owns audience attention, traditional entertainment still hasn’t caught up.”
She then went on to note how everyone watches YouTube on TV now, and that “there’s no A24 for YouTubers,” which is a gap she hopes that Creator Camp will fill.
“Meanwhile,” Colina continued, “creators armed with millions of loyal fans and the skills to write, shoot, and edit are telling better stories than studios…at a penny of the cost.”
Clearly, the Creator Camp team have huge ambitions, as Colina describes how they “emptied our entire bank account on this office and have no idea what to do with it.”
“We know nothing about the film industry,” she concluded. “We’re just a tiny group of 20-year-olds figuring it out as we go. And it all starts here: with a big office and way too many ideas.”
Needless to say, Creator Camp is taking a hell of a risk here. But, with the right creators, it may well end up paying off.
