New Instagram AI features are coming, as head honcho Adam Mosseri teases a suite of generative AI tools for the platform. These are tools that will enable creators to “change nearly every aspect” of their videos with “a simple AI prompt.”
In a new post on (you guessed it) Instagram, Mosseri showed previews of these AI tools in action. During the preview, thanks to AI, Mosseri underwent several outfit changes, from leather jackets to a gold chain, and fur coats.
Mosseri also altered the background to depict different environments, like a bonfire and icy terrain. Furthermore, the most impressive (and disturbing) alteration saw Mosseri transform into an Avenue Q-style felt puppet.
How do these Instagram AI features work?
The tech behind this all is Meta’s Movie Gen AI model, which was first unveiled back in October. Like other AI models, users can create videos or edit existing ones by inputting text prompts into Movie Gen. Moreover, the model in and of itself hasn’t been released publicly, but having it as part of Instagram is arguably the next best thing.
“A lot of you make amazing content that makes Instagram what it is and we want to give you more tools to help realize your ideas,” Mosseri said in the video. “And you should be able to do anything you want with your videos. You should be able to change your outfit or change the context in which you’re sitting, or add a chain, whatever you can think of.”
