Since 1886, America has celebrated some form of Memorial Day in May, a federal holiday honoring the soldiers who gave their lives serving the country. While Memorial Day is a solemn holiday, Memorial Day deals are a brighter subject. Before heading out to the cookout, here are the best deals for creators this weekend.
Why Do We Have Memorial Day Sales?
We’ll get to the deals in a moment. But the history of why we have Memorial Day sales is interesting. So before you start shopping, here’s a quick history lesson from the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum.
From 1886 through 1970, Memorial Day was May 30, regardless of the weekday it fell on. In 1968 the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed, changing Memorial Day to the last Monday of May.
This was explicitly done to create a three-day weekend for federal employees. And since a three-day weekend encourages people to leave the house, travel, and, most importantly, spend money, retailers started targeting the holiday for sales that year.
You may ask yourself, how does that honor our fallen troops? The answer is it doesn’t. But capitalism is about finding opportunities in life as they come. And hey, even if economic reasons pushed the change, a guaranteed three-day weekend is priceless.
What Are the Best Memorial Day Deals for Creators in 2024?
HP Pavilion Laptop 15T-EG300 15.6” Intel Core I7 1355U, 16GB DDR4 Ram, and 256 GB SSD
Price: $549.99, normally $999.99
If you’re looking for a new laptop, this Memorial Day sale from HP is hard to pass up. You’re getting a powerful processor and 16GB of DDR4 RAM for about 40% off the original $999 price. This machine is perfect for editing videos or photos on the go, writing your next script, or even some light gaming.
Plus, with a price this reasonable, you can roll your savings into improving the machine. That 256 GB SSD is a little small. But for $60, you can upgrade it to 523 GB, while a 1 TB SSD will add $130 to the price.
Inspiron 15 Laptop with 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1255U, Windows 11, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, and 512 GB SSD
Price: $319.99, normally $419
This little wonder from Intel offers the same value as the HP model, with a few minor differences. Let’s start with the good, namely the 512 GB SSD. Video files and photos are large, particularly when they get long. Having a big hard drive is useful; 512 GB is the minimum we’d recommend.
Where this model falls behind is in its processor, which is an i7-1255U compared to the HP’s i7-1355U. However, that’s a one-generation difference. That means it might take longer to render your latest video in 4k. However, if money is tight, it’s hard to overstate just how good this computer is for just over $400.
Sony Alpha ZV-E10 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black) with Sony Vlogger Microphone (ECM-G1)
Price: $696 on sale, normally $846
Do you want to step up your vlogging from your smartphone but aren’t ready to spend big? The Sony Alpha ZV-E10 Mirrorless is the happy median of your dreams. Its 24.2-megapixel sensor takes beautiful 4K video in even low-light settings.
Plus, vlogger-centered features like Background Defocus help you save time editing so you can get to posting. The built-in directional 3-capsule mic takes great audio, especially with its windscreen.
However, this bundle also includes a Sony Vlogger Microphone, helping you get even clearer, crisper sound recordings. The Alpha ZV-E10 even has built-in wireless file transfer to your smartphone and can easily shoot vertically.
This is a great deal at almost $200 off the base price.
Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless Camera Bundle With 128 GB CF Express card and card reader
Price: $2,899 on sale, normally $3,399
This big-ticket item rarely goes on sale, so photographers should take note. Canon’s EOS R5 Mirrorless is a stunningly powerful camera with a 45-megapixel full-frame sensor.
With an effective ISO range of 100-51200, it can handle low-light and bright sets. Canon’s subject tracking makes shooting people and animals a joy rather than a stress.
Best of all, its in-body image stabilizer provides up to 8 stops of shake correction when shooting at slow speeds. I bought and personally use this camera for my professional photography work. While I love it, getting the R5 for $500 off would have been amazing.
The only downside is RF lenses for the camera can be expensive. However, an adapter that lets you use Canon EF lenses is cheap. You can also get great EF lenses that take amazing photos at affordable prices.
CLAR FlexLite 16x20in / 40x51cm 100W Rollable Wireless Bicolor SMD LED Panel
Price: $199 on sale, normally $358
Portable lights are a godsend for shooting videos and photography. But they’re a pain to carry around. That’s why the Clar FlexLite is so cool. This rollable wireless bicolor LED panel is essentially a sheet of LED lights.
You might think a small 16×20-inch rollable sheet of lights wouldn’t pack much power. Well, you’d be wrong. This beast outputs 5400 lux of beautiful, bright light.
This model even comes with a quick softbox, X-frame, and egg crate grid to help you achieve diverse lighting options. Couple that with Bluetooth controls and this light is a wonderful option for video creators.

Price: $799.99 on sale, normally $869.99
One of the fastest ways to improve your videos is to implement three-point lighting. Adorama has you covered with a nice little discount on the iLED312-v2 3-point lighting kit. You get everything you need to get started: stands, AC adapters, batteries for working remotely, charges, and a case.
While this may seem expensive, this kit is a deal once you factor in all the included pieces. We particularly love that it’s set up out of the box for indoor and outdoor shoots by including AC power and batteries.
With a max output of 6580 lux, this setup can help you step up your YouTube, TikTok, and selfie game.
