A new hype train record has been set on Twitch by a VTuber — but there’s a little bit of a twist.
For the uninitiated, VTubers are creators who use virtual, usually anime-style avatars to interact with their audiences. They’re extremely popular on platforms like Twitch.
VTubers like Ironmouse and Yuki Sakuna, for instance, have both broken records on Twitch, and with this new hype train record, it looks like VTuber Neruo-sama is the latest creator to have that achievement bestowed upon them.
Who is Neuro-sama?
However, Neuro-sama differentiates from other VTubers in one crucial way: she’s AI-generated. According to Tubefilter, the bot was created initially by developer Vedal back in 2018. Back then, the outlet reports that her primary function was to play osu! — a popular rhythm game.
But as the AI era continued to boom this year, Tubefilter reports that Neuro-sama got a makeover, turning her into a full, AI-powered VTuber.
In short, according to Tubefilter, Neuro-sama essentially operates as an advanced chatbot that can interact with viewers while playing games, making her not dissimilar to IRL Twitch streamers.
Since becoming a full VTuber, Neuro-sama has amassed 689,000 followers. Furthermore, as of Wednesday, the virtual creator has reached a Hype Train Level 111, according to a post on X.
This consists of 84,904 new subscribers and 1,201,225 gifted Bits.
“So it seems we have somehow broken the Twitch hype train world record,” Vedal said in an X post. “Shout out to the swarm, wouldn’t have been possible without you.”
