Nostalgia is baked into a huge number of trends nowadays. From old songs trending on TikTok to Tumblr fashion making a comeback, a large portion of internet culture today features transformed versions of media we’ve loved years ago. With the sheer amount of content and the increasingly bleak state of the world, trends have been cycling through at a faster rate than ever, and we’ve become nostalgic for events and aesthetics from as little as two years ago. Passionfruit contributor Charlotte Colombo spoke with experts to explain why nostalgia has become a big driver in online culture today—and how overreliance on it can result in some pitfalls.
