TikTok streaks, which are not-so-subtly inspired by Snapchat streaks, have been around since June 2024. The principle of this feature is the same: the app counts how many consecutive days users send a DM to each other.

Contrary to popular (mis)information, it is not in fact possible to be paid for TikTok streaks. But as multiple creators spread this claim on the platform, TikTok has spoken out, with a spokesperson telling Forbes on July 10 that “there is no way to be paid for using Streaks on TikTok.”

One TikToker, for instance, garnered 433,100 views in a video claiming to make money on streaks. Another amassed 682,800 for saying that they made $2,000 from doing streaks.

TikTok comments are also contributing to the misinformation, as numerous scammers appear to be sending fake links claiming to help users get paid.

To prevent this, a TikTok spokesperson told Forbes that creators should filter certain words out of their comment sections.

How to start a TikTok streak

To start a TikTok streak, users need to have been sending messages to each other daily for three consecutive days.

Once they reach this benchmark, a fire icon and “streak badge” will appear on the chat. It will disappear if users don’t continue to send each other messages for 24 hours. Users will also get notifications when they start their streaks or when a streak is about to expire.
